Katia Averbukh Reveals Newborn Daughter's Name After Supreme Court Hearing
Katia Averbukh revealed her newborn daughter Rona's name while sharing photos from the Supreme Court following a hearing in her high-profile rape case.
Katia Averbukh shared emotional photos on Friday from the Supreme Court, where she attended a hearing regarding her rape case, while revealing the name of her newborn daughter, Rona, for the first time. Averbukh posted on Instagram about bringing her one-month-old baby to the court session that marked the conclusion of a painful chapter in her life. She wrote that one day she will tell Rona about the day they visited the Supreme Court, noting that the infant heard things no child should ever hear, while praising the fight for justice and truth that she and her husband, Lior Oren, undertook to ensure safety for their daughters. Averbukh and Oren also have an older daughter named Rita. Averbukh first publicly revealed in May on Keshet 12's "Exposure" program that she was violently raped in 2015 by Mishal Zohar, a fellow medical student at Ben-Gurion University. Zohar was convicted of rape and sentenced to three and a half years in prison, though both sides appealed to the Supreme Court—Zohar against his conviction and the prosecution over the leniency of the sentence.
