IDF engineering forces have destroyed a massive Hezbollah underground tunnel network in the Ali Taher ridge in southern Lebanon using 1,100 tons of explosives. Captain Sh., an operations officer in the elite Yahalom engineering unit, described the operation as historic, noting that the tunnels were carved deep into the rock with Iranian backing and funding.
According to the military, the underground complex included living quarters for senior commanders, medical supplies, communication devices, beds, anti-tank missiles, explosive drones, and landmines. The infrastructure was designed to allow operatives to remain hidden underground for months while directing combat operations against Israel.
The operation was conducted in cooperation with the Commando Brigade under the 36th Division. Troops cleared the surface and subsurface terrain before securing the tunnels and preparing them for demolition. Transporting the massive quantity of explosives into the mountainous terrain required extensive logistical efforts lasting several weeks.
Following the controlled detonation, troops implemented additional security measures to prevent Hezbollah from returning to the area. Captain Sh. emphasized that the Yahalom unit remains on high alert and prepared for any future operational challenges across all sectors.
