IDF Eliminates Hamas Nukhba Commander Linked to October 7 Attacks in Gaza
The IDF eliminated Hamas Nukhba commander Jihad Samih Mahmoud Ismail in Khan Yunis, citing his role in the October 7 massacre and ceasefire violations. Recent strikes also targeted senior commanders Nail Abu Obaid and Ahmed Batash.
The IDF announced the targeted elimination of Jihad Samih Mahmoud Ismail, a Hamas Nukhba cell commander who participated in the October 7 massacre, during an operation in the southern Gaza Strip last week. According to the IDF, the strike took place last Thursday in the Khan Yunis area to neutralize an active security threat. Ismail was involved in advancing terror plots against IDF troops and Israeli civilians in systematic violation of the ceasefire.
Involvement in October 7 and Hostage Taking
Military officials stated that Ismail took part in the clash involving tank number 3 and the abduction of Captain Omer Neutra, Sergeant Oz Daniel, and Sergeant Nimrod Cohen. During the same engagement, tank driver Sergeant Shaked Dahan was killed. The bodies of Captain Neutra and Sergeant Daniel were returned under the late 2025 ceasefire agreement, which also saw the release of Sergeant Cohen, while Sergeant Dahan's remains were recovered by IDF forces in August 2024.
"The terrorist took part in ambushes against IDF forces throughout the war with the intent of harming our troops," the military spokesperson stated.
Recent Strikes on Hamas Commanders
The targeted killing follows a series of precise operations against senior terror figures across the Gaza Strip. On the preceding evening, a drone strike eliminated Nail Abu Obaid, the commander of the Hamas Rafah Brigade. Abu Obaid had assumed command in May of the previous year, succeeding his predecessor Mohammed Shabana, who was eliminated in Khan Yunis alongside senior Hamas military commander Mohammed Sinwar. Additionally, a strike in the northern Strip eliminated Ahmed Batash, the commander of the Jabalia Battalion, who was engaged in coordinating military supplies and rebuilding the organisation's combat capabilities.
