IDF Chief of Staff: Israel Will Not Allow Hezbollah to Re-arm in Lebanon
IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir toured the northern border on Wednesday, stressing that the military will prevent Hezbollah from rebuilding its terrorist infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir visited the 91st Division in the Northern Command on Wednesday to conduct an operational assessment and inspect force readiness.
During the visit, Zamir emphasized that the IDF operates from forward defensive lines, including deep inside enemy territory across the border, to neutralize threats and protect northern communities.
"The campaign is not yet over, and challenges lie ahead," the Chief of Staff stated, noting that while significant achievements have been made against Hezbollah, the primary objective is to prevent the organization from regrouping in southern Lebanon.
Zamir stressed that Israel is determined to demilitarize the area south of the Litani River and dismantle Hezbollah's military infrastructure, adding that reliance on the Lebanese government is insufficient due to the Lebanese army's limited effectiveness.
During the tour, commanders presented advanced robotic systems and combat engineering gear used by intelligence troops, the Yahalom unit, and reservists. Zamir announced that the IDF will launch a dedicated robotics branch in the coming months.
