A suspect driving under the influence of drugs struck a police vehicle in Ashkelon and fled the scene, endangering pedestrians and motorists before being swiftly arrested by local authorities.

According to the preliminary investigation, the suspect escaped in his vehicle after the collision. During his flight, he allegedly drove onto the sidewalk, putting pedestrians and other road users at severe risk. He subsequently attempted to destroy evidence related to the incident.

Officers from the Ashkelon police station launched a tracking operation and apprehended the suspect within a short time. He was transferred to the police station for questioning on suspicion of endangering human life on a transportation route, obstructing a police investigation, destroying evidence, driving under the influence of drugs, and additional traffic violations.

The court extended his detention until September 22 for further investigation. Ashkelon police commander Superintendent Eldad Alishiv stated that this was a serious incident that endangered the lives of road users.

He added that station officers acted swiftly, professionally, and decisively to locate and arrest the suspect. Police vowed to continue operating with zero tolerance against drivers who endanger the public and to bring them to justice.
