US Deploys Rare RC-135U Spy Plane Across Atlantic as Iran Threatens European Bases
The US Air Force has deployed a rare RC-135U Combat Sent electronic intelligence aircraft across the Atlantic, amid explicit Iranian threats to strike US bases in Europe if hostilities resume.

A rare and advanced electronic intelligence aircraft of the United States Air Force is crossing the Atlantic Ocean, signaling a potential deployment to the Middle East amid rising regional tensions. According to open-source intelligence and flight tracking data, the RC-135U Combat Sent departed from its home base in Nebraska, stopped at a New Hampshire air base, and subsequently headed toward Europe.
The aircraft, designated to collect electronic signals and analyze military radar systems, is one of only two such specialized platforms operated by the US military. Flight tracking platforms confirmed the aircraft's transatlantic trajectory, raising speculation that Washington is enhancing its military posture in anticipation of potential escalations involving Iran.
Strategic Intelligence Gathering
The RC-135U Combat Sent is specifically engineered for technological and electronic reconnaissance rather than combat operations. Equipped with advanced sensors, the platform detects, identifies, and analyzes electromagnetic emissions from military radars, air defense networks, and naval vessels.
The gathered intelligence is critical for developing electronic warfare systems, countermeasures, and anti-radiation missiles. US Air Force documentation indicates that the data directly supports operational planning and provides decision-makers with comprehensive assessments of adversary air defense architectures.
Iranian Threats Against European Bases
Simultaneously, Iranian officials have issued explicit warnings threatening to strike US military installations in Europe if hostilities resume. Bakhshayesh Ardestani, a member of the National Security Commission in the Iranian parliament, stated that Tehran would target European bases used to support US operations, specifically referencing facilities in Italy and Germany.
Another parliamentary committee member, Fada Hossein Maleki, asserted that Iran has prepared a novel operational approach to counter any renewed confrontation. Recent reports from Iranian state media also indicate explicit warnings directed at European capitals regarding military support for Washington.
