Malaysian PM Claims Israeli Presence in Thailand Poses Security Threat
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim warned parliament that Israeli intelligence and civilian communities in Thailand pose security threats, amid heightened regional tensions.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim warned on Tuesday that Israeli intelligence agencies and civilian communities in neighboring countries pose a potential security threat to Malaysia. Speaking before the Malaysian Parliament, Ibrahim singled out Israeli communities in Phuket and southern Thailand, claiming they represent a security risk, though he presented no public evidence to substantiate the claim.
Ibrahim's remarks come amid heightened regional tensions and follow a protest held on Saturday in Phuket against Israeli nationals and Chabad activities. The Malaysian leader emphasized that his country cannot ignore international crises, pointing to developments in the Middle East, Yemen, and the Red Sea. He revealed that Malaysia's National Security Council convened this week to address potential military threats, cyberattacks, and critical infrastructure protection.
Malaysia does not maintain diplomatic relations with Israel and is known for its outspoken stance regarding the Palestinian issue and the conflict in Gaza. Over the past years, foreign media reports have linked Israel to clandestine security operations on Malaysian soil, including the 2018 assassination of Hamas engineer Fadi al-Batsh in Kuala Lumpur and a 2022 incident involving the alleged abduction of a Palestinian national by operatives linked to Mossad.
