Iranian source: Mojtaba has decided – the IRGC commander determines the policy

Following Donald Trump's announcement on the resumption of negotiations and the subsequent Iranian denial, a source close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that there are no official talks between the USA and Iran. Contact is limited to telephone messages between Abbas Araghchi and American envoys, as well as mediation through Qatar and Pakistan.

According to the source, the Iranians believe they hold the upper hand and are waiting to see when Donald Trump loses patience. Internal disputes within the regime's leadership no longer appear relevant. Mojtaba and the leadership in Tehran understand "that the Americans cannot be trusted" and that the line taken by Ahmad Vahidi, commander of the IRGC, is the one to follow.

Tehran believes it must remain tough and firm with the Americans, avoiding any display of weakness. They firmly believe that Donald Trump will not take any decisive action before November. Consequently, their goal is to exert pressure to secure the funds they require. Mojtaba acknowledges that Ahmad Vahidi is correct, according to the source, and has allowed him to manage the situation and have the final say — the word of the IRGC commander is what determines the outcome.
