The Ayuna carpentry workshop in Kibbutz Be'eri, founded by the late Yonat Or who was murdered in the October 7 massacre, was completely burned down. Fire and Rescue services reported that control of the blaze was achieved and no trapped individuals were found at the scene.
Initially, five firefighting teams and a volunteer team from the kibbutz's firefighting unit were dispatched to the workshop. Firefighters continued suppression efforts at remaining hotspots to prevent the fire from spreading, and the cause of the fire will be investigated by an arson investigator.
The story of Ayuna began about 12 years ago when Yonat Or started restoring antique furniture in her courtyard. Her father, 89-year-old Hanan Bashorai, the legendary carpenter of Be'eri and founder of the kibbutz carpentry shop, gave her the nickname that became the brand name of her life's work.
On the morning of October 7, terrorists infiltrated the family home, murdering Yonat and abducting her husband Dror and their children, Noam and Alma. The two siblings returned during the second phase of the hostage release deal after 50 days in captivity, and the body of her husband Dror was returned to Israel in November 2025.
