Texas Opens First New Commercial Airport in Two Decades Near Dallas
McKinney National Airport in Texas received FAA approval for commercial flights, offering a compact and affordable alternative for travelers and Israelis in the Dallas area.
For the first time since 2005, the aviation map of Texas is changing as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted historic approval to McKinney National Airport, located north of Dallas, to begin operating commercial passenger flights following a government investment of over $9 million in upgrades.
Avelo Airlines will be the first low-cost carrier to operate from the airport, launching direct flights this coming November to popular destinations such as Las Vegas, Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale. In December, the offering will expand to nine destinations, including routes to Atlanta, Denver, Nashville, and New Orleans.
This marks the first time in two decades that an airport in Texas has received this type of operating certificate, following compliance with stringent federal safety requirements. The northern Dallas area has become a major attraction for travelers, offering a compact and affordable alternative for domestic flights.
For Israeli travelers and the local expat community in cities like Frisco and Plano, the new airport provides a convenient and budget-friendly alternative to the massive and congested Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) for domestic connections across the United States.
