Ganei Tikva Man Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Wife Over Shorts
A Ganei Tikva man was arrested for allegedly headbutting his wife because she wore shorts on a holiday eve. A Tel Aviv court extended his detention by 24 hours.
A 54-year-old resident of Ganei Tikva was arrested after allegedly headbutting his wife because she wore shorts on the eve of a holiday, contrary to his worldview. The incident came to light after the woman sought medical treatment at the end of the holiday, leading hospital staff to alert the police.
According to the police, the incident took place on Friday evening, the eve of the holiday. The victim chose not to immediately contact authorities or visit a medical facility due to the holiday, preferring to wait until it ended. She subsequently sought care at a medical center, was referred to the emergency department at Sheba Medical Center, and hospital personnel notified law enforcement.
During a remand hearing at the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court, a police representative stated that the assault was triggered by the victim wearing shorts. A police officer who took her initial statement at the hospital noted visible injuries to the upper part of her nose.
"I believe that much more is hidden than meets the eye in this incident," defense counsel argued, pointing out that the evidentiary foundation remains weak at this preliminary stage.
The defense also emphasized that the couple spent the holiday together before the woman sought medical attention, requesting a minimal extension of custody. Judge Ronit Poznansky Katz ruled that an initial reasonable suspicion exists, noting the suspect's lack of prior convictions and their 34-year marriage, and extended his detention by 24 hours while ordering expedited investigative steps.
