Buses pelted with stones in Ashkelon, union demands security expansion
Two Dan Badarom buses were pelted with stones in Ashkelon on Sunday evening, causing window damage but no injuries. Transport unions and labor officials have demanded increased security measures.
Two buses belonging to the Dan Badarom company were targeted in Ashkelon on Sunday evening, as stones were hurled at lines 3 and 13. The incident resulted in shattered windows, though passengers and drivers miraculously escaped physical injury.
A formal complaint has been filed with the Ashkelon police regarding the perpetrators. Representatives of the transportation workers' union strongly condemned the attack, stating that drivers should not have to face a combat-like atmosphere while simply operating their routes.
Inbar Galis, head of the southern region for Koach LaOved, emphasized that a major disaster was narrowly avoided. She noted that throwing stones at crowded buses is by no means a prank and urged law enforcement to bring the culprits to justice. Galis also called upon the Ministry of Transportation to expand the security unit's operations for public transit, pointing out that armed security escorts currently operate in only six cities while major urban centers like Ashkelon, which has witnessed severe attacks this year, remain excluded from the project.
