Drivers arriving at Ben Gurion Airport to pick up passengers are urged to strictly follow designated parking and stopping rules. Despite clear signage and the opening of a dedicated waiting lot, motorists continue to stop on roadsides, risking fines of up to 500 shekels sent directly by mail.

Surge in Automated Enforcement

The increase in penalties stems from an automated camera enforcement system deployed across the airport grounds. According to the Israel Airports Authority, stopping in prohibited zones is actively monitored, meaning a brief roadside wait while passengers exit the terminal often results in a citation. Data from the Knesset Research and Information Center reveals a staggering growth in enforcement, with fines jumping from 6,305 in 2022 to 50,995 in 2025—a 709% increase over three years.

Breakdown of Violations and Revenue

The vast majority of citations in 2025—around 91%, or 46,278 cases—were issued for parking against traffic signs. Additional penalties included 1,772 for traffic disruption, 863 for sidewalk parking, and 820 for parking on pedestrian crossings. Consequently, collection rates have soared, reaching roughly 28.4 million shekels between 2022 and 2025, with 16.5 million shekels collected in 2025 alone.

Free Waiting Lot Alternative

To help alleviate congestion, the Israel Airports Authority opened a dedicated waiting lot four months ago, offering free parking for the first hour. Located just minutes away from the terminal, the lot allows drivers to wait comfortably until passengers confirm they are ready for pickup. Motorists can easily locate the facility on Waze by searching for the designated waiting area near Ben Gurion Airport.
