Heavy Monsoon Rains Trigger Severe Flooding Across Bangkok and Thailand
Torrential monsoon rains have caused severe flooding across Bangkok and 21 Thai provinces, affecting over 84,000 people and disrupting transport as weather services warn of more storms.
Heavy monsoon rains battering Bangkok since Thursday afternoon have triggered widespread flooding across Thailand's capital, paralyzing traffic and stranding motorists. Precipitation has exceeded 20 centimeters, overflowing major canals and inundating residential neighborhoods in the central and eastern districts.
The crisis extends far beyond the capital. According to authorities, more than 84,000 residents across 21 provinces have been affected by severe weather, prompting the government to issue emergency mobile alerts and establish temporary shelters.
Thailand's Meteorological Department warns that torrential downpours will persist through Sunday due to a low-pressure system and strengthening southwest monsoons. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt assured that municipal drainage teams are working around the clock to clear flooded thoroughfares once the rains subside.
