"Alliance of Friends": Israeli rescue mission departs for Colombia

An Israeli rescue and humanitarian aid mission will depart tonight, Thursday, for Colombia following the earthquake that struck the country. The "Alliance of Friends" mission is a joint effort by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the IDF, and the Ministry of Defense, departing on an Air Force plane from Nevatim airbase.

Upon arrival in Colombia, the team will begin search and rescue operations and distribute humanitarian aid, including food and water. The force is led by the commander of the Home Front Command's National Search and Rescue Unit, Brigadier General (res.) Yossi Pinto.

The mission consists of approximately 80 personnel, including rescue workers and experts from both active duty and reserve forces. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the operation is being carried out under the directive of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, following an offer of assistance from Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar to his Colombian counterpart. The Israeli Embassy in Colombia will coordinate activities with local authorities.
