New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has seen a massive surge in Google searches in Israel, crossing the 5,000 search mark with a 1,000% jump over a 20-hour period. The timing coincides with preparations for the UN General Assembly annual summit, which will bring world leaders to the city, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Mamdani recently drew attention after clarifying that he does not intend to participate in protests against Netanyahu during his visit. This follows previous statements where the mayor noted that New York lacks independent legal authority to enforce the International Criminal Court arrest warrant against Netanyahu, though he urged federal action.

Mamdani, 34, was born in Uganda to a South Asian family and moved to New York at age seven. Recent revelations regarding his application to Columbia University and his family's background have sparked discussions regarding his political narrative and public identity.

He is married to illustrator Rama Duwaji, with whom he resides in Astoria, Queens. The couple previously celebrated a multi-day wedding ceremony in Uganda, drawing considerable public interest alongside his political activities.
