Yemeni government forces announced on Saturday the complete capture of the Hays district in the western Hodeidah governorate from the Houthi terrorist organization.

The official Yemeni news agency quoted a military source stating that while the town of Hays had been liberated in the past, parts of the surrounding countryside remained under the control of the Iranian proxy in Yemen until now.

The source noted that government forces regained control and advanced toward Houthi positions, forcing the militants to retreat after suffering dozens of casualties, including dead and wounded. The source also confirmed that troops continue to secure the liberated areas and consolidate their positions following the completion of the operation.

The Hays district holds significant geographical and strategic importance, located in the southeastern part of the Hodeidah governorate, which hosts the crucial port. Additionally, the coastal highway and the main transport artery connecting the port of Mokha to Hodeidah and the central highlands pass through Hays, making it a key transit point for both commercial traffic and Houthi logistics.
