Mossad Completes Assessment in Qatargate Scandal

The Mossad has completed its long-awaited security assessment regarding the Qatargate affair and submitted it to the State Attorney's Office. The document has subsequently been transferred to the Shin Bet, which is expected to formulate its final security opinion in the coming days.

This development paves the way for potential security-related indictments against Jonatan Urich and Eli Feldstein, two aides working in the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Once the Shin Bet concludes its review, the case file will move to Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara for a final decision on hearings.

Suspicions of Qatari Influence and Security Breaches

The Qatargate affair involves suspicions that individuals close to Netanyahu promoted Qatari interests in Israel during the ongoing war while simultaneously working in the Prime Minister's office. Investigators suspect that funds originating from Qatari-backed sources were funneled to Eli Feldstein through intermediaries to boost the Gulf emirate's public image in Israel.

"The investigation focuses on messaging designed to present Qatar favorably while undermining Egypt's mediation status in hostage-release negotiations," law enforcement sources noted.

Potential Legal and Security Implications

During the investigation, Urich and Feldstein were questioned over suspected ties with foreign agents, bribery, fraud, breach of trust, and money laundering. Both were briefly detained in March 2025. Prime Minister Netanyahu also provided open testimony during the probe.

The central question for intelligence agencies was whether the alleged actions damaged state security. This distinction between standard criminal offenses and severe security violations will heavily influence the severity of the eventual indictments and potential prison sentences.
