The IDF has introduced a new artificial intelligence-based system named "Yanai" to the Judea and Samaria sector, aimed at enhancing real-time threat detection and operational response times.

Advanced AI for Border Defense

Developed internally by the Border Defense Corps, the Yanai system fuses data from various collection assets in the sector, including cameras, thermal devices, radars, and drones, consolidating them into a single operational picture. Utilizing computer vision and AI, the system detects unusual movements in the area and triggers real-time alerts. This enables female spotters to quickly understand incidents and transmit more accurate information to forces on the ground.

Upon identifying a threat such as bomb placers, stone-throwers, or infiltration attempts, the system translates the data into precise location coordinates and transfers them directly to combat soldiers and patrol vehicles. This significantly shortens the time between threat identification and the arrival of forces at the target point.

The system helps us filter out the noise and direct the spotter's attention to what truly requires her focus. Ultimately, the goal is simple: to shorten the time from the moment a threat is identified until the force knows where it is and can act against it, a military official said.

Tailored for Complex Urban Environments

The system was specifically tailored to the characteristics of the Judea and Samaria sector—a dense and complex urban space where roads, settlements, villages, and the seam line are in close proximity. Initially deployed a year ago in the Ephraim Regional Brigade, Yanai is now expanding across all command centers in the sector.

A primary challenge in the region is the volume of routine movement, including vehicles, agricultural activity, animals, and vegetation, which generates heavy cognitive loads and false alarms. Yanai filters out much of this background noise, reducing operational stress during shifts. Furthermore, the system digitally logs incident stages to allow for precise post-action debriefings, pattern recognition, and improved tactical readiness.
