WTA Reaches Milestone: Equal Prize Money for All Joint 1000 Events by 2027
The WTA announced that all joint WTA 1000 tournaments will offer equal prize money for men and women starting in 2027, marking a milestone for gender equality in tennis.

WTA announced on Thursday that starting from the 2027 season, all joint WTA 1000 tournaments will award identical prize money to men and women, marking a major step toward gender equality in professional tennis.
Rome, the Canadian Open (Toronto/Montreal), and Cincinnati will join other WTA 1000 events that already offer equal pay: Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, and Beijing. All four Grand Slam tournaments also distribute equal prize pools to both sexes.
"Achieving equal prize money across all joint WTA 1000 tournaments is a significant milestone for tennis," said WTA CEO Valerie Camillo. "It demonstrates the WTA's ongoing commitment to lead the sports industry in providing competitive and financial equality for our female athletes."
In addition to the prize money parity, the WTA announced several format updates for 2027, including the expansion of the WTA 250 tournament in Manila and a reduction in mandatory WTA 500 events for top 50 players from six to four.
