Illegal construction on agricultural land near the city of Tayibe and the Azriel moshav has expanded significantly in recent years, transforming into a residential neighborhood with 17 separate compounds, according to aerial photographs and monitoring by the Regavim movement.

Agricultural Land Converted into Residential Compounds

Comparative analysis of aerial imagery from 2018, 2025, and current 2026 data reveals that at least six new structures have been erected in the area over this period, alongside the expansion of existing facilities. What was once protected agricultural land now features permanent structures, mobile homes, manicured lawns, developed infrastructure, and private swimming pools located just meters away from the moshav's perimeter fence.

Security Threats and Frequent Shootings

Alongside zoning violations, residents of the adjacent Azriel moshav face severe safety and security hazards due to recurrent gunfire originating from the unauthorized neighborhood. The shootings, which frequently occur near homes and courtyards, have created a daily reality of fear and explosions. The geographical proximity of the shooting hotspots to residential structures and Route 6 poses a direct physical and security risk to local residents and motorists traveling along the major highway.

"It was right here with us east of Madmoni, very, very loud. I guarantee you, if you send a drone up you can see it... The interior wall of my house and I shook," one resident wrote in internal messaging groups, reflecting widespread frustration and anxiety over the lack of enforcement.

Criticism of Law Enforcement and Municipal Response

Residents have expressed deep frustration with the response of law enforcement and municipal authorities. Complaints shared in community groups detail repeated calls to police emergency dispatchers in real-time that failed to yield any police presence on the ground. Despite municipal assurances dating back to 2016 that enforcement proceedings were underway and unauthorized structures would be demolished, Regavim's legal department notes that the initial structure has instead evolved into a luxurious residential villa featuring a pool and extensive grounds.

In response to Regavim's latest findings, municipal representative Walid Tibi issued a brief statement maintaining that the construction dating back to 2016 has been handled by district enforcement inspectors, asserting that any illegal building on agricultural land is addressed immediately. However, ongoing aerial documentation contradicts these official claims.
