One Killed and Two Injured in East Jerusalem Shooting Incident
A 24-year-old man was shot dead and two others moderately injured in East Jerusalem's Abu Tor neighborhood. Police suspect a long-standing family feud.
A 24-year-old resident of East Jerusalem, Muhammad Ashraf Shweiki, was shot dead on Wednesday evening in the Abu Tor neighborhood where he lived.
Investigation and Details of the Shooting
According to preliminary reports, four masked individuals opened fire at a group of people, critically injuring Shweiki. He was evacuated to Shaare Zedek Medical Center, where medical personnel pronounced him dead a few hours later. Two other men, aged 38 and another whose age was not specified, sustained moderate penetrating wounds and were also evacuated from the scene.
Police forces arrived promptly at the location, launched an investigation into the circumstances, gathered evidence, and initiated sweeps for suspects. Law enforcement stated that initial findings suggest the background to the murder is a long-standing multi-year blood feud between families.
Residents and eyewitnesses told local media that it was a miracle more people were not killed. "They shot directly at people, and by sheer luck, nobody else was murdered," locals said, adding that the atmosphere is extremely tense.
Escalation of Violence in the Arab Community
According to community trackers, the latest homicide brings the death toll in violent incidents within the Arab sector to 180 since the beginning of the year.
"This was a complex scene. One of the casualties was brought to us at a local clinic unconscious, pulseless, and breathless. We immediately initiated advanced resuscitation efforts, including chest compressions, artificial ventilation, and medications, and evacuated him in critical condition," recounted Magen David Adom paramedics Adva Tzadok, Shir Sternberg, and motorcycle paramedic Avraham Alloush.
This incident follows a series of recent violent crimes across the country. A day earlier, 20-year-old Nimer Jabareen was shot dead in Umm al-Fahm, with another man lightly injured. A day prior to that, a resident in his twenties from Segev Shalom in the Negev was killed in a suspected land dispute.
