A security official pushed back on Tuesday against the version provided by the Prime Minister's Office regarding an alleged "urgent discussion" held with the security cabinet, clarifying that the meeting was scheduled and coordinated in advance. According to the official, the discussion was set a week ago and, contrary to the Prime Minister's Office's claim, is not an emergency session. Meanwhile, a senior IDF official stated that there is no specific warning regarding any security threat.
Security Briefings and Political Tensions
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet tonight with Opposition Leader Yair Lapid. The meeting follows remarks made by Netanyahu at the Tel Nof Air Force Base, where he stated that "there are signs that our enemies will try to attack us ahead of the elections." Following these remarks, Lapid demanded a security briefing to understand if the threats are genuine. The Prime Minister's Office responded that security briefing meetings with the opposition leader take place on an ongoing basis, and the last one was held about two weeks ago.
"The moment a prime minister in a democratic country states publicly that there is a threat that could disrupt the elections, all involved parties must receive a full briefing," Lapid demanded.
Political Reactions and Military Operations
Gadi Eisenkot's "Yashar!" party responded to Netanyahu's remarks by stating that if the security threats are real, it requires an immediate briefing of the opposition leader to ensure it is not a political maneuver aimed at harming the election process. Yair Golan, leader of "The Democrats", also criticized the statement, claiming that the public cannot trust Netanyahu on security matters during an election period.
During his visit to Tel Nof, Netanyahu emphasized the ongoing military operations across multiple fronts, noting recent targeted eliminations in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon. He stressed that despite mounting pressures to withdraw from achieved military gains, his administration will not allow it.
