The inauguration ceremony of the new settlement of Gad Natan took place on Tuesday during the intermediate days of Sukkot, marking a significant expansion of Jewish presence in the southern Gush Etzion region.
The festive event featured family activities, tours of local heritage sites, and an official ceremony attended by Minister of Settlement and National Missions Orit Strock, Minister of Heritage Amichai Eliyahu, Amana Secretary-General Zeev Hever, Gush Etzion Regional Council Head Yaron Rosenthal, and other dignitaries.
Gad Natan is one of six new settlements approved this year in Gush Etzion as part of a government initiative. Located in the southern part of the bloc between Karmei Tzur and Hebron, the settlement helps protect Second Temple-era ritual baths and hiding caves from vandalism.
Official Speeches and Historical Significance
Minister Orit Strock emphasized the historical context during her address at the ceremony.
"With a delay of more than 30 years, we are marking today the establishment of another point of light of a Jewish settlement between Gush Etzion and Hebron. We thank God for the privilege of leading the State of Israel to repair the damages of the Oslo Accords."
Regional Council Head Yaron Rosenthal noted that the community's establishment closes a personal circle for him after exploring the area three decades ago. He highlighted that Gush Etzion has expanded significantly, growing from 14 to 28 communities with thousands of new housing units approved in recent years.
