Samaria Court Extends Detention of Two Suspects Over Tunnel Discovery
The Samaria Military Court extended the detention of two Qalqilya residents by eight days following the discovery of a 25-meter tunnel and weapons cache in a joint security operation.
Following the discovery last week of an unfinished 25-meter-deep tunnel and weapons cache, the Samaria Military Court on Monday extended the detention of two Qalqilya residents by eight days. The suspects were arrested last week on charges including weapons possession, preparation of a terrorist act, and preparing a passage or tunnel for illegal crossing or escape.
According to police, the arrests were carried out during a joint operation by the Samaria district's anti-crime unit and Judea and Samaria Border Police officers. Four suspects were detained in total, including two Israeli citizens and two Qalqilya residents. Samaria Brigade forces and the IDF's Yahalom engineering unit were subsequently deployed to the scene.
Police stated that the four suspects were transferred for interrogation on suspicion of weapons possession, conspiracy to commit a crime, preparation of a terrorist act, preparing a tunnel or passage for criminal acts or escape, possession of unauthorized materials, and other offenses.
The two Palestinian suspects were brought to the military court, which extended their remand until October 4 to allow for the continuation of the investigation. The detention of the two Israeli suspects was extended last Thursday until tomorrow.
