Russian Influence Campaign Impersonates Walla Ahead of Knesset Elections
A Russian influence campaign is impersonating the Walla news site to spread fake articles regarding security and politics ahead of the Israeli Knesset elections.

A cybersecurity investigation has revealed a sophisticated influence campaign tied to Russia, mimicking the Israeli news site Walla to spread fake articles concerning security, political, and economic issues ahead of the upcoming Knesset elections.
Fake Portal and Dissemination
Between May and October 2026, at least 76 forged articles were documented on the impersonator website, with links distributed primarily on the X platform through fictitious accounts. The operation is linked to the Russian Doppelgänger influence campaign, which operates globally by masquerading as reputable media outlets.
Core Narratives and Infrastructure
Primary messages target sensitive issues within Israeli society: roughly 28% of publications portray Turkey as an imminent military threat, and 26% advance the claim that the USA is abandoning Israel. Other articles focus on the cost of living and emigration. The infrastructure utilizes at least 66 web addresses to redirect users, utilizing servers with ties to Russia.
Information Poisoning Risks
Beyond swaying human readers, experts warn of "information poisoning," where fake reports are ingested by search engines and artificial intelligence systems, potentially repeating false narratives as reliable data to unsuspecting users.
