Ken Griffin Warns of AI Bubble

Billionaire Ken Griffin, founder of Citadel, stated that investors are "almost certainly" in the middle of an artificial intelligence bubble. According to him, many companies are still struggling to accurately assess technology spending and how it will fundamentally transform the global economy.

"Companies are extracting value from their models in a very uneven way," Griffin said in a Bloomberg interview at the Future of Global Markets conference in New York. "I think they are looking at the invoices from Anthropic and OpenAI and saying, 'Okay, we need to make sure we are actually getting productivity out of this.'"

The Golden Age for Entrepreneurs

Griffin's stance on AI has evolved over the past year. While previously skeptical, he noted that the technology will ultimately lead to a massive wave of new business creation in the United States, even as white-collar jobs face disruption.

"You see the threat to white-collar jobs materializing; as a business owner, you see your competitive moats being bulldozed," Griffin said. "And at the same time, you think this will be the golden age of entrepreneurs."

Griffin compared the current era to the period preceding the dot-com bubble burst. "The companies that end up on the other side of the bubble are the market leaders for decades to come," he noted, adding that he wishes he had held onto his Amazon shares from earlier cycles. Meanwhile, Deutsche Bank CEO Christian Sewing expressed a contrasting view, stating he does not currently spot a systemic bubble in the AI sector.
