Three Brothers Indicted for Murder and Tampering with Evidence in Rahat
Three brothers from Rahat have been indicted at the Beersheba District Court for the murder of a local resident and subsequent obstruction of justice, which included tampering with evidence in front of police officers.
Three brothers from the Bedouin city of Rahat—Daoud Karnawi (34), Ahmad Karnawi (26), and Amir Karnawi (21)—have been indicted in connection with the murder of a local resident, following a long-standing family feud. The Southern District Attorney's Office, represented by attorney Eran Tzruya, filed the indictment at the Beersheba District Court.
The Fatal Confrontation
The incident began with a verbal dispute between the victim and Amir Karnawi over a blocked road. Due to the ongoing conflict between the families, the argument quickly escalated, involving insults and references to past grievances.
At the time, Daoud Karnawi was at a distant shop. Upon receiving word of the argument involving his brother, he rushed to his luxury vehicle with his uncle and drove to the scene. Spotting the victim standing on the sidewalk near his home, Daoud exited the vehicle with a loaded pistol and fired warning shots into the air.
The victim's father and son attempted to intervene to protect him. However, Daoud aimed the pistol directly at the victim and shot him in the abdomen. As the victim collapsed, Ahmad Karnawi approached with a club and repeatedly struck him. The brothers prevented family members from administering first aid before fleeing the scene. Daoud returned home, changed his clothes, and fled the country.
The victim was rushed in critical condition to the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, where he was pronounced dead.
Obstruction of Justice
When police officers arrived at the scene to gather evidence, Amir Karnawi actively interfered with the investigation. He approached the spot where the victim had bled, kicked away one of the spent bullet casings, and attempted to smear the blood on the ground with his feet.
Officers intervened, but Amir fled on foot and violently resisted arrest before being handcuffed. Daoud was subsequently arrested upon his return to Israel.

The prosecution has also requested the court to forfeit the vehicles used by the defendants to travel to and flee from the crime scene.
