Pressure in Washington: New date for talks with Lebanon and Beirut's conditions

Lebanese sources told the Qatari newspaper "Al-Araby Al-Jadeed" today, Monday, that US efforts are underway to hold a round of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon in September. It was further reported that the date for the round is expected to be set soon.

According to the sources, all options on the ground remain open, but Lebanon will reiterate its position supporting only a diplomatic track. They noted that this position is maintained despite difficulties and obstacles from Israel. According to them, diplomatic efforts will continue until all Israeli strikes cease, a withdrawal from all Lebanese territories is achieved, prisoners are returned, and a reconstruction process begins.

"Cost us dearly"

"There is an expectation, of course, for developments on the American-Iranian front, but Lebanon's position is known for supporting the independence of its file. It hopes that all parties will continue on the same path; relying on others has cost the country dearly, and such a thing must not happen again," the sources said.

The Lebanese sources added: "We hope that the national interest will be above all other agendas. Lebanon will continue to strive for a monopoly on weapons and is not interested in canceling any factor, but only that everyone complies with decisions, respects state institutions, and works together to rebuild Lebanon."
