IDF Paratroopers Reconnaissance Unit Marks 70 Years of Combat Operations
The elite IDF Paratroopers Reconnaissance Unit marks its 70th anniversary while actively operating across multiple fronts, from Gaza to Lebanon and the West Bank.
The Paratroopers Reconnaissance Unit, one of the elite formations of the IDF, is marking its 70th anniversary. Seven decades after its establishment, the unit remains vital and actively engaged in high-risk operations across multiple fronts.
"We are currently moving from Gaza to the West Bank, to Jenin, and we will be there during the holidays," says the unit's commander, Lt. Col. N. "All of us have been in a continuous combat flow since October 7. We carried out operations and took part in hostage rescue efforts, struck in most areas of Gaza, and operated in scenarios related to hostages. From there, the unit moved to Lebanon and also to Syria, where in a single night we conquered the security zone and destroyed capabilities. From there, we descended back to Gaza, to Khan Yunis, operating night after night."
Recalling the unit's DNA of initiative, Maj. A., a company commander, reflects on the grueling transitions between sectors. "First of all, we are not combat machines or mercenaries. All this fluidity relies on Zionism. Professionally speaking, many of the challenges we faced in the north were addressed using our existing combat doctrines and methods. Adjustments are made for each sector, but it is not overly complex. Where is it most complex? The transition between Gaza and the West Bank. It is very intensive work in Jenin, but you know that in Gaza there are still hostages, and that is a significant mental challenge."
The unit's commanders and soldiers emphasize that despite continuous losses and relentless combat from the southern communities to the northern border, the bonds forged in battle remain unbreakable.
