Demolition Order Issued for Illegal Structures Near Rabbi Tomb in Netanya

The Real Estate Enforcement Authority has posted a demolition order for extensive illegal construction carried out adjacent to the grave of Rabbi Amos Guetta at the Netanya cemetery. An investigation by enforcement officials revealed that the large-scale construction was conducted without permits and did not align with the designated land-use plan.

Community Tensions and Memorial Site

Rabbi Amos Guetta was highly revered and popular among Netanya residents. His murder just over two months ago plunged the city into deep mourning, with thousands attending his funeral. Police apprehended the suspect on the day of the killing. Recently, numerous residents volunteered to help build the complex surrounding his grave, meaning the demolition order is likely to spark local protests.

Enforcement Authority Position

According to the Real Estate Enforcement Authority, the illegally developed area of approximately 1,400 square meters is designated for public burial plots, and part of the construction encroaches beyond the cemetery boundaries.

Officials emphasized that the demolition order does not apply to the rabbi's actual grave, but only to the unauthorized structures built on the surrounding public land.

In an official statement, the Real Estate Enforcement Authority declared:

"Illegal construction will not become a fait accompli. The Authority will act decisively to remove the structures and restore the area to its original state for the benefit of the public. We will continue to operate against illegal construction in public spaces and will utilize all enforcement tools at our disposal to achieve this."
