Kibbutz Nahal Oz Inaugurates New Residential Neighborhood After Oct 7 Damage
Kibbutz Nahal Oz, heavily damaged during the October 7 attacks, has inaugurated the new 'Shadot' residential neighborhood. Built with KKL-JNF support, the project aims to rebuild the community and welcome new families.
A new residential neighborhood was inaugurated over the weekend in Kibbutz Nahal Oz, which was severely damaged during the October 7, 2023, terrorist attacks. The neighborhood, established with the assistance of the Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF), includes six semi-detached buildings and is expected to house new families joining the kibbutz.
Green Construction and Expansion
The "Shadot" neighborhood, built using green construction methods, is one of two new residential areas currently being developed in Nahal Oz. Alongside it, work continues on the "Eucalyptus" neighborhood, which includes four additional residential buildings. Its construction is expected to be completed within approximately three months.
KKL-JNF invested approximately 8.8 million NIS in the establishment of both neighborhoods as part of the efforts to rehabilitate and expand the kibbutz following the war. Partners in the project also include Kibbutz Nahal Oz, the Ministry of Construction and Housing, the Tekuma Authority, and the Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council.
Rehabilitation of the Hardest-Hit Communities
Since the outbreak of the war, KKL-JNF has transferred an additional 2.5 million NIS to Nahal Oz in donations and assistance for various initiatives, including the construction of a sports complex, a water reservoir, and support for community needs.
The project in Nahal Oz is part of a broad program to rehabilitate the 14 kibbutzim that suffered the most severe damage during the October 7 attacks, referred to as the "Red Kibbutzim." Under a decision approved by the KKL-JNF board of directors in August 2025, 124 million NIS was allocated to this program.
The inauguration of the neighborhood marks another step in the rehabilitation process of Nahal Oz, alongside ongoing efforts to return kibbutz members to their homes, absorb new residents, and re-establish the community.
KKL-JNF Chairman Eyal Ostrinsky stated:
"Nearly three years after October 7, standing here in Nahal Oz and seeing a new neighborhood rise in a place that was so badly damaged is a picture of true victory, expressing above all the choice of life. We did not settle for restoring what was destroyed; we came to rebuild the infrastructure for life, community, and growth. The neighborhood we are inaugurating today is much more than new homes; it is an opportunity for new families to arrive, for the community to strengthen, and for the kibbutz to continue building its future."
