Border Police Soldier Indicted for Road Rage Assault Near Al-Zaim Checkpoint
The Police Internal Investigations Department filed an indictment against off-duty Border Police soldier Lior Levi for assault causing actual bodily harm following a road rage incident near the al-Zaim checkpoint.
The Police Internal Investigations Department has filed an indictment in the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court against Lior Levi, a Border Police combat soldier, charging him with assault causing actual bodily harm. According to the indictment, Levi, who was off duty at the time of the incident, became involved in a road rage altercation, blocked another driver's path, and subsequently punched him in the face, causing a laceration to his forehead.
The incident took place on April 21, 2025, at approximately 1:15 PM, near the al-Zaim checkpoint. Levi was driving a Kia Picanto with his partner seated beside him, while the complainant was driving a Ford Focus with his father-in-law as a passenger.
According to the charges, Levi was driving in the left lane, overtook the complainant's vehicle, and merged in front of him into the middle lane. Immediately afterward, he braked for several seconds and continued driving slowly. The complainant honked his horn at him several times. After both vehicles crossed the checkpoint, the complainant drove alongside Levi's vehicle and made an obscene middle-finger gesture toward him.
At this point, Levi reportedly began pursuing the complainant, overtook him, and blocked his path in a manner that forced him to stop. Levi exited his vehicle and shouted, "If you're a man, get out of the car." The complainant also stepped out of his vehicle, at which point, according to the indictment, Levi identified himself as a police officer, cursed at him, and began the assault.
The indictment states that Levi struck the complainant in the face with several punches to the forehead and jaw until the complainant fell to the ground. Immediately afterward, Levi left the scene. As a result of the assault, the complainant suffered a cut approximately two centimeters long on his forehead.
Levi is charged with assault causing actual bodily harm under section 380 of the Penal Law. The indictment was filed through the Police Internal Investigations Department, and the prosecution notified the court that there is a possibility it will seek a sentence of actual imprisonment.
