Teenager Hospitalized with Alcohol Poisoning on Eve of Final School Year in Kfar Yona
A 17-year-old high school student from Kfar Yona was rushed to Meir Medical Center after losing consciousness from severe alcohol poisoning at an outdoor party on the eve of the school year.
A Dangerous Party on the Eve of the School Year
It was supposed to be a celebratory night marking the end of the summer holidays, just hours before the start of the final year of high school. Yanai (pseudonym), a 17-year-old from Kfar Yona, went to an outdoor nature party with his friends before starting the 12th grade. A few hours later, he was unconscious and on his way to the hospital.
According to his mother, Yanai consumed a large amount of alcohol during the party. At some point, he began vomiting and subsequently lost consciousness. His friends tried to wake him up but failed. The mother of one of the friends, a registered nurse, arrived at the scene to assist. Realizing she could not revive him, she immediately called his mother.
At around 7:30 AM, A., Yanai's mother, received the distressing call.
"At 8:01 AM, I called the local clinic. Meirav Davidman, the administrative manager, answered and told us to come immediately, promising they would help. We drove straight there," A. recalled.
Emergency Intervention at the Clinic
When the vehicle arrived at the Clalit clinic in Kfar Yona, the medical team rushed out to examine the teenager while he was still in the car. Meirav and Dr. Abdel Aziz Jouma, the clinic's director, noticed that the boy was unresponsive after vomiting and remained unconscious. They decided to summon an emergency evacuation to the hospital.
Dr. Jouma stated:
"When I was called outside, I found the youth lying in the back seat of the car, unconscious and barely responding to stimuli. I placed him on his side and requested an intensive care ambulance to evacuate him immediately."
They ordered an intensive care unit (ICU) ambulance and prepared the necessary emergency referrals. The teenager was evacuated to the Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba, where the medical staff successfully revived him. Once his condition stabilized, he was discharged home.
A Harsh Lesson Before Graduation
While his classmates gathered on the morning of September 1 to celebrate their final year of high school, the teenager, a physics major, was recovering from his ordeal. He missed the first day of the 12th grade.
"When he woke up and realized what had happened, he told me: 'I was an idiot.' Fortunately, the medical team knew exactly how to act," his mother said.
Dr. Revital Gross Nevo, director of the Clalit Sharon-Shomron district, warned:
"Although this incident ended safely, there is a crucial message here for parents and teenagers: excessive drinking can turn a fun night out into a life-threatening medical emergency in a matter of minutes. When a person loses consciousness or stops responding after drinking alcohol, do not wait—call for medical help immediately."
For Yanai from Kfar Yona, the final year of high school began very differently than planned. He missed the first day of class, but he returned home safely with a lesson he is unlikely to forget.
