A family dispute over wedding clothing purchases escalated into a criminal arson case filed this morning. According to the indictment, a young man from Kfar Saba set his aunt's car on fire in Hod Hasharon following a series of escalating arguments with his cousin and aunt.

The prosecution stated that the dispute began roughly two months ago over clothes for a family wedding, during which the defendant allegedly threatened his cousin. The tensions further compounded after a separate quarrel broke out between the defendant's mother and her sister, the groom's mother.

Arson and Investigation Details

"This was not a spontaneous, momentary act, but a premeditated act of revenge involving prior preparation of gasoline, nighttime arrival at the victim's residence, and the torching of her vehicle," the prosecution stated in its remand request.

Investigators revealed that the suspect prepared a bottle of gasoline in advance, stashing it at his grandmother's house. On the night of the incident, he arrived at Golda Meir Street in Hod Hasharon on a bicycle, wearing dark clothing, a mask, and gloves. He ignited the bottle and hurled it at his aunt's Suzuki.

The fire severely damaged the front and rear of the vehicle, including windows, lights, and the trunk door, while also spreading to an adjacent car. The suspect left his phone at home during the act to conceal his movements, but later confessed during police questioning.

Family Confrontation and Legal Proceedings

During a subsequent family gathering, the defendant reportedly expressed remorse and admitted to the act in front of relatives, where compensation for the damages was discussed. Initially, the suspect's parents attempted to provide an alibi, though his father later admitted there was a period when his son was unaccounted for.

The prosecution emphasized the extreme danger of the act, noting that torching a vehicle near a residential home while family members were present could easily have resulted in catastrophic injury or loss of life.
