Burglar Returns Stolen Valuables with Apology Note Before Recapture in Israel
Police in Kafr Kanna indicted a 34-year-old resident for burglary after he surprisingly returned stolen items with a note, only to be caught following a second break-in.
In May, police in Kafr Kanna received a report regarding a residential burglary in the Jezreel Valley area. The homeowner reported that a burglar entered through a bathroom window, stealing jewelry and a Sony console worth tens of thousands of shekels. Two weeks later, a significant portion of the stolen equipment was returned.
Charges and Investigation
The police prosecution unit filed an indictment against 34-year-old Amir Hayajna for housebreaking, possession of a knife, threats, and theft. According to the investigation, the suspect experienced remorse and returned to the scene to leave back the stolen valuables alongside a note reading, "Do not reveal that I broke in."
"This is one of the rare cases where I encountered a burglar who returned to the crime scene to give back what he stole," said Chief Inspector Tatiana Shmidov, head of the investigations and intelligence branch at the Kafr Kanna police station.
Subsequent Break-In
Despite the return of the initial items, investigators continued their work. On July 18, another break-in occurred through a bathroom window using a knife, resulting in the theft of cash and jewelry. Forensic evidence left at the second scene led law enforcement directly to the suspect.
Defense attorney Wasim Daher noted that his client expressed sincere remorse and struggles with complex personal challenges, arguing that a rehabilitative approach should be prioritized over punishment. The legal proceedings will take place at the Nazareth Magistrate's Court.
