Three Israeli political figures have signed a green charter initiated by the Dan Sanitation Association to address the looming crisis in the nation's waste management system ahead of the upcoming 26th Knesset elections. Yair Golan, Yoaz Hendel, and Gadi Eisenkot committed to the initiative, which seeks to overhaul a sector currently handling 1.3 million tons of waste annually.

The Dan Sanitation Association Charter

Reuben Lidiansky, chairman of the Dan Sanitation Association and deputy mayor of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, emphasized that the waste management system is on the verge of collapse. The charter outlines a comprehensive roadmap including a national emergency plan, transitioning to waste sorting before landfilling, establishing energy-recovery facilities, and strictly penalizing environmental crimes.

The Dan Sanitation Association formulated this charter to rally major parties running for the 26th Knesset to commit to a national emergency plan for our waste economy.

Political Reactions and Commitments

Leader of The Democrats, Maj. Gen. (res.) Yair Golan, blamed successive governments for severe infrastructure shortages and high landfill rates compared to the OECD. Meanwhile, Yoaz Hendel, leader of the Reservists faction, stressed that long-term, advanced solutions are urgently needed to transform waste into a valuable resource rather than burying it in the ground.
