May Golan Questioned at Lahav 433
Minister for Social Equality and the Status of Women May Golan (Likud) arrived Wednesday for questioning under caution at the Lahav 433 unit offices in Lod, as part of the "Funds Affair." The investigation involves severe suspicions of bribery under aggravating circumstances, fraud, breach of trust, and submitting a false affidavit.
According to police sources, evidence exists to establish an indictment against Golan. In June of this year, police announced the investigation against her had concluded and the case was transferred to the State Attorney's Office to decide on prosecution. However, the prosecution requested supplementary investigative steps, leading to the renewed summons.
Background of the Investigation
Four years ago, the National Unit for Fraud Investigations (Yahak) opened the case regarding suspicions that Ministry for Social Equality employees were involved in obtaining goods by fraud, using public funds for private needs, fictitious employment, and concealing funding sources.
"All the sin of those arrested is that they are close to me," Golan stated during the initial raids.
As the investigation progresses, the prosecution has instructed investigators to provide Golan with another opportunity to respond to the accumulated suspicions and present her version of events.
