IDF Establishes New Space and Robotics Brigades for Future Warfare
The IDF is establishing a new Space Brigade and a Robotics Brigade while reactivating the 500th Armored Brigade, as part of strategic adaptations for future multi-domain warfare.

The IDF continues preparations for future battlefield domains by establishing a dedicated Space Brigade under the Planning Directorate. Brigadier General S. was appointed to head the new unit, alongside two new department heads who will be promoted to colonel.
Establishing the Space Brigade
The brigade, revealed in recent reports, will be officially established in the coming months as part of the multi-year "Hoshen" strategic defense plan. The unit will spearhead force buildup and operational doctrine in space, consolidating knowledge and training to establish space as a specialized military profession.
Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, views the brigade's formation as a milestone initiative during his tenure. The unit will unify space operations currently dispersed across the Israeli Air Force, the Intelligence Directorate, and the C4I Directorate, with future potential to evolve into a full operational branch headed by a major general.
Lessons from Iran and Future Tech
Recent military engagements, particularly against Iran, heavily integrated space-based capabilities including satellite communications, intelligence gathering, and exo-atmospheric defense intercepts. Defense officials highlight plans for satellite constellations comprising numerous cost-effective units to ensure continuous regional surveillance.
Concurrently, the IDF is forming a Robotics Brigade under the Depth Brigade command, led by Brigadier General Y., following tactical lessons learned after October 7. The military is also reactivating the 500th Armored Brigade, which was originally disbanded in 2003.
