IDF Exposes 170 'Journalists' Killed in Gaza as Active Terror Operatives
The IDF revealed that 170 Gazans previously presented as journalists were active operatives in Hamas and Islamic Jihad, with 17 participating in the October 7 attacks.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) revealed on Thursday that 170 Gazans killed during the ongoing war and internationally presented as journalists were actually active terrorists in Gaza-based terrorist organizations, primarily Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
According to the IDF, 118 of the listed individuals were operatives in Hamas's military wing, 49 served in Islamic Jihad, one belonged to the 'Lords of the Desert' organization, and two were affiliated with the Popular Resistance Committees. Furthermore, 17 of these individuals participated directly in the October 7 onslaught inside Israeli territory.
Over recent months, military intelligence identified a recurring pattern where Hamas and Islamic Jihad inadvertently published information proving that several individuals mourned globally as media workers were active combatants. This data often surfaced after the narrative accusing the IDF of deliberately targeting journalists had already taken root internationally.
Evidence and International Impact
The military released authenticated evidence, including visual materials and documents recovered during ground operations, proving the organizational affiliations and operational roles of the exposed individuals. Some of these individuals worked for prominent international media outlets, including Reuters, CNN, ABC Australia, BBC, AFP, AP, and Le Monde.
The narrative alleging intentional targeting of journalists became a cornerstone of international criticism against Israel, echoing through human rights organizations and global institutions without distinguishing between legitimate press personnel and active terror operatives. More than 40 of these eliminated operatives' deaths previously drew direct UN condemnations against Israel.
IDF Response to Allegations
IDF Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin stated during a briefing that the military launched a dedicated website detailing the names, photos, organizational affiliations, and evidence regarding the 170 operatives. Defrin also addressed a recent controversial documentary concerning targeting processes, dismissing it as manipulative and misleading.
'IDF never planned, approved, or executed any strike where it was expected that 500 civilians, or even a number approaching that, would be killed,' Defrin emphasized, adding that artificial intelligence is never utilized to autonomously approve operational targets.
