Leaked FBI Documents Reveal Politically Motivated Probes Against Trump and Musk
Internal FBI documents leaked in the US reveal investigators pushed for a politically motivated criminal probe against Elon Musk and targeted Donald Trump.

A major political storm has erupted in the United States after internal FBI documents were made public, raising serious allegations that agency investigators used their power for political purposes against President Donald Trump and those close to him. The leaked records reveal that an FBI investigator attempted to launch a criminal probe against the world's richest man, Elon Musk.
The correspondence was exposed by Senator Chuck Grassley, who argued that it proves high-ranking state officials acted secretly against elected representatives. According to Grassley, these clandestine actions are even more severe than the infamous Watergate scandal that once shook America and led to a presidential resignation.
The Investigation Attempt Against Elon Musk
At the center of the revelation is an email sent by an FBI agent named Kevin Gounaud. During that period, Musk was appointed to help the government reduce waste and streamline federal offices. In his role, Musk posted a message on the social network X asking civil servants to detail five things they accomplished during their workday. Following this post, the agent demanded a criminal investigation against Musk under the unusual pretext that since Musk owns Twitter, using his platform for government-related matters might have generated advertising revenue for him.
"This covert weaponization of federal law enforcement goes beyond anything we saw in past decades, threatening the foundational trust in our democratic institutions," stated congressional sources reviewing the documents.
Political Motives and the 2016 Russia Probe
In addition, the documents show how another agent repeatedly begged superiors to include him in the major investigation examining whether Trump's associates colluded with Russia during the 2016 election—an investigation that ultimately concluded without substantial evidence of such a conspiracy. The disclosure demonstrates that contrary to leadership claims that investigators receive cases objectively and blindly, certain agents actively pursued politically charged cases to target Trump.
For years, Donald Trump and his supporters have alleged the existence of a "deep state," a term referring to bureaucrats, judges, and intelligence officials who allegedly exploit permanent positions to thwart conservative elected officials. This email leak now serves them as concrete proof that U.S. law enforcement agencies occasionally acted according to political leanings rather than the letter of the law.
