Three Indicted in Northern Israel for Extortion and Protection Rackets
Three suspects were indicted in Nazareth for attempting to extort 300,000 shekels in protection money, following an emergency call to police during the incident.
Three suspects were arrested in northern Israel following an emergency call reporting an extortion attempt. The incident occurred on August 8, when the defendants arrived at a victim's home and demanded 300,000 shekels in protection money.
According to the indictment filed at the Magistrate's Court in Nazareth-Nof HaGalil, the suspects, aged 24, 36, and 39 from Umm al-Fahm and Na'ura, invoked a known criminal gang's name to terrorize the victim and his family. During the encounter, one of them threatened the victim's life, stating he would "fill you with bags."
An urgent call to the police 100 emergency hotline captured the panic at the scene. "Come here, criminals are demanding protection money. Bring help, he has a gun," the caller pleaded amidst shouts and commotion. Northern District police forces rushed to the area, swiftly locating and arresting the fleeing suspects.
This incident highlights the growing plague of extortion affecting business owners and residents across the North. Following the northern ceasefire, local communities have reported an alarming surge in protection racket demands, leaving many business owners feeling dangerously exposed to criminal elements.
