El Al Boeing 777 Aborts Landing After Approaching Off-Path at Low Altitude
An El Al Boeing 777-200 flying from Paris to Ben Gurion Airport temporarily deviated from its landing path, dropping to 600 feet before executing a safe go-around and landing without incident.
An unusual incident occurred during an El Al flight from Paris to Ben Gurion Airport on September 7. A Boeing 777-200 aircraft strayed from its approach path while heading toward the runway, coming within approximately 1.85 kilometers of the planned landing trajectory.
According to reports from international aviation websites, the aircraft continued to descend despite not being properly aligned with the runway, dropping to an altitude of just 600 feet—about 183 meters above the ground.
At this point, the crew decided to abort the landing attempt. The aircraft climbed back to a safe altitude, maneuvered away from the runway area, and prepared for another approach. Approximately 20 minutes later, it landed safely at Ben Gurion Airport.
The flight in question was LY324 from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris to Israel, operated by a Boeing 777-200 with the registration number 4X-ECF. The exact cause of the deviation from the landing path remains unverified from current public reports.
El Al conducted an internal investigation and concluded that no safety violation occurred. The airline stated that the pilots performed a standard go-around procedure in accordance with protocols as soon as they identified that the aircraft was approaching the outer limits of safe landing parameters, after which the flight landed normally.
