Northern Israel Residents Indicted for Shooting at Police and Homes
Two northern Israel residents were indicted for firing at a home and shooting at pursuing police officers. They were arrested in Ramat Gan following a joint YAMAR investigation.
Two residents of Uzair in northern Israel have been formally indicted for allegedly opening fire on a residential home in their village and subsequently shooting at police officers who pursued them.
Indictment Details and Police Pursuit
The Northern District Prosecutor's Office filed the indictment at the Nazareth District Court against 25-year-old Mahmud Faour and 23-year-old Mahdi Abu Samra. According to the charges filed by Adv. Louay Azzam, the suspects conspired five weeks ago with an individual to target a local resident. Armed with an M16 assault rifle, ammunition, gloves, and face coverings, they removed the license plates from a silver Toyota.
At approximately 23:30, the accused arrived at the target's home and fired heavily, causing severe damage to the entrance and parked cars. Two police officers on operational patrol heard the gunfire, rushed to the scene, and pursued the fleeing vehicle. The chase continued along a dirt path near the village of Rumat al-Heib and onto Route 77, where the suspects fired point-blank at the police cruiser.
"We salute our excellent officers who engaged the enemy under fire and responded without fear. Shooting at Israel Police officers is crossing a bright red line," stated Northern District Commander, Superintendent Meir Eliyahu.
Forensic Evidence and Arrests
The officers returned fire, forcing the suspects to abandon their vehicle in a wooded area near the water reservoirs of Mekorot's Eshkol site. The Northern District Central Unit (YAMAR) led the investigation, recovering M16 casings, DNA evidence matching Faour on discarded clothing, and digital data placing the suspects at the scenes.
Two days later, the pair was arrested while hiding in an apartment in Ramat Gan. They face serious charges including aggravated assault, weapons offenses, illegal shooting, and obstruction of justice.
