Drug smuggling worth millions of shekels: Bags seized near Kfar Ruppin
Fighters from the Jordan Lions Battalion and trackers from the Jordan Valley and Valleys Brigade located over 50 kg of hashish worth millions of shekels near Kfar Ruppin. Police have seized the shipment and are investigating.
A smuggling attempt involving over 50 kilograms of hashish was thwarted yesterday along the eastern border. The operation was carried out by fighters from the Jordan Lions Battalion (41) and trackers from the Jordan Valley and Valleys Brigade.
According to military sources, the forces discovered several bags containing the narcotics during routine patrols. The shipment is estimated to be worth millions of shekels. Detectives from the Northern District Police (YAMAR Tzafon) were summoned to the scene to collect the evidence and are currently working to identify those responsible for the smuggling attempt.
IDF officials stated that this interception adds to a series of successful operations, with over 200 kg of various drugs seized along the eastern border in recent months.
The increase in thwarted smuggling attempts is attributed to the strengthening of defense components in the region, including the establishment of the 96th Division headquarters and a wider deployment of forces.
The eastern border spans over 320 kilometers, and some sections still lack physical or electronic barriers. The IDF continuously maps potential routes used by smugglers and terrorists, working to install surveillance and warning systems while maintaining proactive operational activity.
