Chinese Man Holds Wedding and Baby Celebration with Two Women on Same Day
A Chinese man held his wedding downstairs and a baby celebration with another woman upstairs on the same day, sparking a police intervention and an online debate over bigamy.
A man in China found himself at the center of two separate family celebrations on the same day and in the same building. Downstairs, his wedding to one woman took place, while upstairs, a celebration marked 100 days since the birth of his baby with another woman.
According to the venue management, the two events were booked separately and the contracts were signed by different family members. Despite the unexpected clash, management confirmed that both events were completed and fully paid for.
The incident, which went viral on Chinese social networks, sparked widespread debate and raised legal questions regarding bigamy. Authorities in Guizhou Province investigated the matter and clarified that the man is legally married only to the woman he wedded, and never officially married to the mother of his child.
Consequently, authorities determined that holding the baby celebration did not constitute the crime of bigamy. Local officials are currently mediating an ongoing financial dispute between the parties involved.
