Aviv Geffen Slams Controversial Film 'No Other Land' Amid Family Divide

Israeli singer Aviv Geffen has spoken out strongly against the documentary "No Other Land" and its creators, Yuval Abraham and Basel Adra. In a social media post published on Wednesday, the 53-year-old artist wrote: "I sang over the graves of entire families who were slaughtered, and soldiers who died because they upheld the purity of arms; they will no longer have the chance to applaud Yuval Abraham's film. They were found with their hands tied." Geffen's remarks sharply contrast with the stance of his sister, Shira Geffen, who two days prior joined hundreds of Israeli cultural figures in signing a petition supporting the filmmakers.

Shira Geffen joined prominent names in Israeli cinema and television, including Ari Folman, Hagai Levi, Shlomi Elkabetz, Dani Rosenberg, and Nir Bergman. The petition states: "We, filmmakers, call on everyone still fighting for freedom of expression and creation to join in expressing support and solidarity with Rachel Shor and Yuval Abraham, creators of the film 'No Other Land'. In recent days, we have witnessed an unprecedented campaign of incitement and defamation against the film's creators, bringing the distance between this rhetoric and physical danger dangerously close."

The signatories added that the violent and inflammatory discourse directed at the creators for expressing their views should concern everyone, regardless of political opinions. The controversy highlights deep divisions within the Israeli cultural community regarding artistic freedom, political expression, and the ongoing national trauma following the events of October 7.
