Annexation of the Strait of Hormuz and threats to Iran: Donald Trump on US foreign policy

US President Donald Trump responded to reporters' questions in the Oval Office on Monday, addressing the memorandum of understanding with Iran, the status of the Strait of Hormuz, the nuclear ambitions of the Islamic Republic, and reports regarding the aircraft carrier Lincoln.

Regarding his statement about potentially declaring the Strait of Hormuz as US territory, Donald Trump called it an "excellent idea." He noted that Washington controls the strait through a blockade, which helps lower oil prices. According to the President, Iran is in a state of deep crisis with 300% inflation.

Regarding Iran, Donald Trump emphasized: "Tehran wants to make a deal, but not the kind of deal that is necessary. They must not have nuclear weapons." He also mentioned the existence of a secret communication channel with elements of the Revolutionary Guards and added that if fighting resumes in the Middle East, the US will lead it with Israel's support.

Separately, the US President commented on the threat toward Oman: "If they stand in the way, we will bomb the hell out of them." He clarified that he views Oman's conduct as problematic but is confident in the US's ability to handle the situation easily.

Donald Trump also denied CNN reports regarding food shortages on the aircraft carrier Lincoln, labeling them false. Regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip, he stated: "The Israelis better not attack — Hamas has agreed to lay down its arms." This follows reports that the terrorist organization has committed to a 15-point agreement.
