Hebrew University and 710 Testimony Launch AI Archive for October 7 Accounts

An innovative AI-powered archive launched by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the "710 Testimony" association preserves the harrowing accounts and acts of heroism from the October 7 massacre. The digital platform brings together hundreds of recorded testimonies from survivors, security personnel, and residents of Sderot, Ofakim, and Gaza envelope kibbutzim.

Preserving the Voices of October 7

Modelled after Holocaust research archives, the project utilizes advanced artificial intelligence to enable detailed searches by topics and keywords. Users can watch short five-to-six-minute clips or delve into extended interviews lasting over an hour.

Among the testimonies is that of Ornit Pahima, a resident of Sderot who learned of the assault through a neighbor and her father before discovering her sister, Mor Gabai, was missing. After enduring days of uncertainty, she evacuated to Eilat, where she received the devastating news of her sister's death.

Academic and Public Impact

"Collecting the testimonies of October 7 and preserving them in a way that enables in-depth research is a critical historical move," stated Prof. Tamir Sheafer, President of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The university aims to ensure the disaster's memory serves as a living infrastructure for Israeli society and the world.

Ahead of the third anniversary of the attacks, the Hebrew University and "710 Testimony" will host an international academic conference titled "710 Testimony, An Archive of the Present: Memory, Ethics, and Trauma in the Age of Artificial Intelligence".
