Zack Polanski, leader of the Green Party in the United Kingdom, is facing a major public controversy after historical records disproved his claims that his ancestors fled from the Nazis. The scandal comes as the party approved a motion branding Zionism as racism, alongside revelations that a party member is closely tied to an Al-Qaeda terrorist.

Disputed Family History

In his keynote speech at the party conference in Bournemouth last year, the 43-year-old Polanski claimed that his Jewish ancestors fled pogroms in Latvia and Ukraine, reached Nazi-occupied Poland, and eventually escaped to Britain, where they faced antisemitism. However, a review of public records, including birth, marriage, and census data from 1891 and 1901, indicates that his family settled in Britain in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Despite the evidence, Polanski repeated the narrative on several occasions, including on the podcast "The Rest Is Politics" and the BBC's "Question Time" last December. The Daily Mail reported that the discrepancy came to light last month when Polanski admitted to interviewer Iain Dale that his great-grandparents arrived in Britain long before World War II, changing their surname from Polanski to Polden to avoid local antisemitism rather than fleeing the Nazis.

Controversial Party Motions

The Green Party recently approved a controversial motion stating that Zionism is a form of racism and calling for a single democratic Palestinian state across historical Palestine, alongside sweeping boycotts and sanctions against Israel. Following the move, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar decided to ban Polanski from entering Israel.

Additionally, The Daily Telegraph revealed that Lubna Salfiti, a party member who spearheaded the motion, is a close associate of Mina Quang Pham, an Al-Qaeda terrorist convicted in the US for plotting a suicide attack targeting flights from Israel and the United States at Heathrow Airport.
